LOCAL | Star Wars Reads Day

We are HUGE dorks at our house. Star Trek, Doctor Who, Super heroes (before super heroes were cool), Battlestar Galactica... And OF COURSE, Star Wars.

In a galaxy not so far away, in fact it was our local library to be exact, a big sign, that read: Star Wars Reads Day, showed up one quiet afternoon on our way in to check out our usual week's worth of books. So, obviously, we had to check it out.

A quick sign up and a calendar reminder I immediately added in my phone, ensured a day we spent nearly a week anticipating.

On the day of the event we arrived just in time to catch the first activity:

A Story and Puppet Show

Following this, the kids and parents were directed out to the enclosed court yard and served a special treat.

Yoda Soda

A quick game called "Feed Jabba" (basically a bean bag toss) offered up the most adorable prize, A key chain with a cute little Yoda quote: "Read More, You Must." Lyric totally got a kick out that.

As everyone made their way back into the library, sets of markers and coloring sheets were perfectly scattered among several tables.
There were tons of activities designed for kids of all ages.

Lyric had such a blast.

She genuinely enjoyed all of it and we both appreciated the chance to participate in a fun community event.

The staff was enthusiastic and made sure all of the kids had an opportunity to find related books appropriate to their reading level.

Do you participate in local events like these? Be sure to check out your library and sign up for a newsletter if they offer one! We will definitely be doing this again next year and are on the lookout for more special events in the future.
