LIFE | Suicide Prevention Starts With You

It's hard to talk the talk, if you don't walk the walk.

Changing a stigma happens one person at a time, one story at a time, and one action at a time.

When you walk the walk you participate in the basic law of physics: An object in motion stays in motion.

I was raised to believe that actions speak louder than words, however words themselves become powerful when you take action and use them to share your story with the world.

There is a kind of connection exchanged when you open up a part of you that has been closed off for so long.  The act of sharing can be an effective, but often difficult, way to educate others about depression, mental illness and suicide. When you put your words in motion, they have the potential to change someone's life.

Tomorrow I will share a story about my own struggles with depression and suicide. My only hope is that you will listen and use this opportunity to make a difference by letting go of any stigmas you have and keeping an open mind about everything you think you already know.

You can show support today by sharing any of the links below. They point to resources, hotlines, and support groups that are dedicated to making a difference in the world. If you know someone who has struggled with suicide, your actions today might give them the courage to help someone else. Just like that, you will be an object in motion.
