LIFE | A Pictures Worth a Thousand Words
This is the last picture of us before we officially became new parents.
The moment they rushed Vince out of the room to change and they began prepping me for an emergency C-Section, I became hysterical and stopped breathing. As soon as he returned he grabbed my hand, looked into my eyes and told me everything would be ok. I took a deep breath and struggled to see him through all the tubes and tears as his mom snapped this picture as escorted everyone else out of the room.
Everything that followed is a blur. My sobs became a background noise as they lifted a curtain and strapped my arms down. The pressure from the incision was painless, yet terrifying. Everything moved so fast and the clinking of the tools slightly dampened the sound of the doctor's urgent commands.
The last things I remember hearing that afternoon: A baby crying, the doctor announcing "it's a girl!" (We had decided not to find out the gender until birth), and Vince asking "Is she going to be OK?"
Then everything went black.

Ok, so this is really embarrassing. I swear my tub never looks like this.
TECH | Tricks & Treats from #HalloweenHangout on Google+
After attending a great G+ Hangout this morning I learned some really great tricks for making Halloween a little more fun, delicious and safe.

LOCAL | Star Wars Reads Day
We are HUGE dorks at our house. Star Trek, Doctor Who, Super heroes (before super heroes were cool), Battlestar Galactica... And OF COURSE, Star Wars.
In a galaxy not so far away, in fact it was our local library to be exact, a big sign, that read: Star Wars Reads Day, showed up one quiet afternoon on our way in to check out our usual week's worth of books. So, obviously, we had to check it out.
LOCAL | Drunk on Alga
What is alga you ask? It is not a new wine ( although maybe it should be), not is it a liquor, beer or any other spirit.
Alga is a road.
At least once a week I drive the 3 or so miles between El Camino Real and Melrose, down the winding road past beautiful homes, a water tower, golfing greens and a church or two.
Always in the afternoon and usually on the same day in the middle of the week.
Yes, afternoon. Yes, middle of the week.
So, what exactly is Drunk on Alga?
Drunk on Alga is the gentle swaying of a car as it makes it way past the perfectly trimmed trees lined along the perfectly paved road. Drunk on Alga is the oblivious delay at a green light or the sudden stop at a red by a driver whose slow reflexes may be mistaken for a minor distraction. Drunk on Alga is driving 10 miles under the speed limit in the right lane as cars who need to turn onto an approaching street decide whether or not they should just go around.
Occasionally, as I make my way down this familiar path of roadway I often wonder, maybe my senses are wrong. Maybe the obvious signs are all in my head and my over active imagination and the warm California sun is playing tricks on me.
Maybe I'm the one who is drunk? (Fact: I never drink and drive).
Drunk on Alga.
FOOD | Miso Soup and Shrimp Stir Fry
It is always great to mix things up a little when you are trying to cook at home more. Both my husband and daughter love to eat out (who am I kidding, I do too!) but with adopting a healthier lifestyle, the first change we made was the food we eat.
PARENTING | F*ck Authority
PARENTING | Creating Independence
Last week I wrote about School Lunch and my daughter's quest to buy it from the cafeteria instead of bring it from home.
I honestly believe that part of her fascination with the cafeteria and hot lunch comes from an independence most kids are fighting for at this age and I want to explain why I think it's important to nurture that independence.
FOOD | Low Calorie Green Smoothie Recipe
I've made this green smoothie for my daughter a few times and she always loves it. It's a really great way to serve up a ton of spinach without eating a salad every day.
Occasionally we'll toss in fresh berries when they are in season. They give the smoothie a nice boost of vitamins and flavor. Pineapple, mangos, peaches, and fresh squeezed citrus also make great additions to this recipe. Just remember to start a spinach smoothie with green apple.
As for the amount of each ingredient, I pretty much just wing it. In the interest of blogging, I used my food scale and weighed it out. (Because I love you guys!)
PARENTING | The School Lunch Dilemma
When it comes to packing lunch for school, I like to try and keep it as healthy and nutritionally balanced as possible.
But what kid wouldn't love chocolate milk and pizza for lunch?
LIFE | After Death
Life After Death is the story of my recovery. While it spans the course of over six years, there has always been one overlying theme: Support
LIFE | Romeo & Juliet Was Not A Love Story
Aside from the embarrassment, there is a bottomless pit of insecurity that lives deep inside of me; when I think about how often we, as people, judge one another for even the most mundane things, like the kind of cars we drive or the type of jobs we have, I know my fear is rarely unwarranted.
But here it goes anyway...
LIFE | A Suicide Note
I want to take a moment and talk about suicide.
1. It's real
2. It's preventable
Whatever the reason: Stress, feelings of failure, bullying, mental illness, drug addiction... It can be stopped.

Anyway, I created my profile and completed a TON of tasks and surveys.
